COMMISSIONS

An increasing number of clients are asking for special commissions from our artists. These may be corporate commissions of industrial subjects (Chris Jarvis recently complete a very successful painting of Thames Port) but more often they are private commissions requested for portraits, houses, gardens and animals.  Here are just three recent examples:

Right: A very special triptych by John Scarland to celebrate the birthday of one of our partners, encompassing all the happy references in her life. John likes challenging commissions with scope for his fertile imagination……………..

Left: “The Paddock, King`s School, Rochester” by Christopher Jarvis, a private commission and now a limited edition print available from the gallery and from the school shop. Christopher is very versatile and will tackle landscapes, marine subjects, gardens and houses in watercolour or oil on paper

Left: “Oscar” a private commission by Rosie Madders. She is happy to take on cats, dogs, horses and people in both pastels and watercolours. Known for her accuracy and sensitivity, she prefers to do head and shoulders, ensuring that she has captured the twinkle in the eye, so important for a good portrait.

HOW TO PROCEED

If you have an idea about commissioning an artist, come and see us. If you do not have a favourite artist in mind we will be able to recommend one. We will take a brief from you, contact the artist to agree a price and ensure that the mission can be accomplished  within any time scales. Obviously, the more time allowed the better.

Once we agree the details with you (which might include sittings, taking photographs and/or visits to the site to make sketches) then the artist will commence work. At this point payment of up to half the total price may be required.

It is possible to arrange for rough concepts to be available for you to see at an early stage, depending on the subject, but the contract will cover any changes requested.

Clients are reminded that as always the reproduction rights remain with the artists unless they are specifically waived by him or her. We can arrange for prints to be made from any work that you commission.
